Geared Head and Remote Head Workshop - ISC

What a fun day teaching this geared head and remote head workshop. We had in our arsenal, an Arrihead, Arrihead 2, Chapman Hybrid dolly, Chapman Peewee dolly, DJI Ronin2 with Master wheels and a jib arm.

We started with a short video showing clips from films through the years, illustrating equipment and techniques as they have developed to current times. It was then time to put the students through their paces.

They learned to practice good posture and position on the dolly and how to hold and operate with the hand wheels. We tracked, jibbed tilted on stand ups and panned 180 degress. After lunch I set up a jib sequence for the students to operate. This utilised a lot of the techniques we explored in the morning but on a remote head.

Great effort all round and thanks to Stephen Murphy ISC BSC for organising, 24-7 Drama for housing us a supplying the camera kit and of course the camera assistants and grips for all their hard work and good humour.
